ntl suffers LLU frustration

Tries to cure it at a stroke

TMA in Brighton Telecoms outfit, ntl, has hinted that it might explore other avenues for delivering broadband services other than engaging in ADSL services via Local Loop Unbundling (LLU).

In particular, the Hampshire-based company is considering accelerating the roll-out of broadband services to businesses via its own DSL-enable network, cable modems and a wireless option.

Like other telcos, ntl is frustrated with the pace and way LLU is being carried out in Britain and it appears this does not fare well for its aggressive strategy of capturing 30 per cent of the SME market by 2003.

Sources within the company (which is also a LLU triallist) made it clear that while the company was not pulling out of the LLU process (whereby it is bidding for space in BT's local exchanges) it was considering other options. ®
