Flame of the Week true delusion

We give Oftel and BT an easy time. Eh? What?

[This bloke must be living in a parallel universe. One where The Reg loves corporates and is afraid to say what it thinks. BT and Oftel are probably top of the list in companies that we have consistently lambasted. We despair of you Arvind - unles you've mistaken us for ft.com]

Just WHO are you people accountable to??? I've read a story at ft.com this morning regarding the British government's victory in pushing back the end of year deadline for Local Loop Unbundling. I am shocked and dismayed that this has happened in the face of such industry pressure and criticism of Oftel's and BT's pathetic speed of progress, if we've had any!

Oftel's first mistake was ever thinking it could regulate BT, it can't because it accepts anything BT tells it without question or request of proof. Oftel then, to add insult to injury, decides it will allow BT to decide how to let other operators access its exchanges. It doesn't take an 8 year old to realise BT will hold out, as it had on unmetered acess to the net, as long as it can from allowing other operators to install kit in local exchanges. It's blatantly obvious that the DTI and Oftel, as well as the e-minister, do nothing other than to protect BT's stranglehold on the UK and limit the influence of other operators. I wonder how many fat brown envelopes you people receive from BT????

You all need to be sacked and TRUE net users with REAL concerns take over and make policy that will push the UK ahead of its pathetic e-player position. Oftel says it listens to the industry, it doesn't. As soon as anyone conducts independant research/investigations to assess BT's influence of the net industry Oftel dismisses them as speculation. Ovum has told of how BT has made broadband an earner for only itself, Oftel does nothing. MCI Worldcom pulls out of the UK broadband market due to BT constant, extremely poor stifling tactics, Oftel does nothing. Various telecoms companies issue a formal complaint about BT, Oftel denies it and does nothing. How can you for a moment attest Oftel or the DTI or the British Government have the UK's net interests at heart??? You're all completely useless.

Unkindest regards,
Arvind Panessar
