Frederick Forsyth's next book on Net only

Top author Frederick Forsyth has followed in Stephen King's footsteps and announced that his next book will be available on the Net only. The book, called Quintet, will be a series of five short stories and fans will be asked to pay £2 to read each story.

The writer of bestsellers The Day of the Jackal and The Odessa File said the Internet would let more writers get published and reach fans all over the world. He described e-books as "one of the most exciting developments in my experience as a professional writer".

The first two stories The Veteran and The Miracle will be released to coincide with the start of the Frankfurt Book Fair on 18 October. The Fair will play host to a new $100,000 (£63,000) award for the best online author. Maybe this was the reason behind Fred's sudden conversion :-).
