AOL buys stake in wireless gadget maker
Content for multiplayer chat room alarm clock
AOL is to take a stake in US wireless gadget maker Cybiko.
The amount to be invested by the ISP was not revealed. AOL will fit out the Cybiko product - a handheld device aimed at teens that offers multiplayer games, a calculator, alarm clock and wireless chats - with its services.
Under the agreement, it will provide content such as weather, sport and stock market information, and the Cybiko $129 gadget will later get AOL's instant messenger and email services.
AOL first approached the Illinois-based company - which launched last year - at the New York launch of the product at a toy industry show in March. Since
then it has flogged around 50,000 of the teen gadgets, and plans to have another 500,000 on shop shelves by this time next year. ®
