Red Hat loves IBM (true)
Still at kissing stage
IBM has authorised Red Hat to bundle IBM's Linux-based software worldwide.
The computer giant said that it would also distribute more than 100 printer drivers to the open source community as part of its drive to get the Linux operating system onto its entire product line.
IBM is still pushing to get Linux onto the desktop product lines. It is Linux-enabling the NetVista thin client, initially based on TurboLinux one of RedHat's rivals, and will support both N2200 and N2800 models.
IDC reports that last year 25 per cent of new servers were running Linux, making the operating system second only to Microsoft's Windows, installed in 38 per cent of machines. IBM also announced that it was joining the GNOME Foundation, dedicated to advancing the open source GUI cause. ®
