M$ LINX vote delayed

Even the tenterhooks are on edge

Microsoft will have to wait another 36 hours before finding out whether its application to join the influential London Internet Exchange (LINX) has been successful or not.

A decision about M$' application was due to be announced on Friday. However, a last-minute request for information delayed the decision.

The decision will now be made public on Tuesday night.

Documents seen by The Register suggested that some of LINX's 109 members doubted M$' intentions to join LINX, although none questioned its technical credentials.

A spokeswoman for LINX denied that there was anything sinister behind the delay and that M$' application to join LINX was in jeopardy.

She said the delay was "absolutely normal practice" and that it had happened to half of those ISPs who had joined LINX.
