Mobile Athlons to be made of wood?

Chimpzilla's codename strategy has been thrown into confusion according to JC's Pages. It appears that US car maker Chevrolet doesn't wish to be associated with high technology and has thrown a wobbler over AMD's use of the Corvette and Camaro codenames for its forthcoming mobile Athlons and Durons.

Maintaining the automotive theme, Corvette now becomes Morgan, the UK sports car which boasts an even longer wait for delivery than a 1GHz Pentium III, while Camaro gets to be renamed Palomino after what we think is a 1964 Dodge pickup truck.

One of the USPs of Morgan sports cars (apart from the four year waiting list) is the company's insistence on sticking with proven (aka old) technology such as the use of wood instead of steel for much of the body frame and floor. Indeed, the company seems reluctant to move to 20th Century manufacturing techniques, let alone the 21st.

Not much of a role model for a state of the art chip maker, in our humble estimation. ®
