HP, Canon sued in printer patent case

Patent boot delivered in Motor City

Hewlett-Packard and Canon are being sued for alleged patent infringement of printer technology.

The case, filed in the US district course for the Eastern District of Michigan (Detroit), alleges that Canon, Inc., Canon USA, Inc. and the Hewlett-Packard Company have breached a patent owned by Steven B Michlin, the plaintiff.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gerald E. Rosen under the docket 2:00cv73306 and the plaintiff is asking that the case be heard by a jury.

No other details are currently available but we can't help wondering if Steven B Michlin is the Steven B Michlin who also lives in Michigan and has re-filed patent number 5,367,364, which relates to a charge roller contact stabiliser spring. If it is a different Michlin, maybe he'd like to tell us... ®
