FBI swoop hacker hauled into court

Welsh teenager charged on 12 counts

A teenage hacker accused of stealing details on 23,000 credit card accounts appeared in court yesterday.

Raphael Gray was arrested in March following an FBI swoop on the Welsh village of Clynderwen.

The 18-year-old allegedly hacked his way into eight banking Web sites as part of a suspected $3 million fraud. He is then alleged to have posted the details of 6500 card holders on the Web.

Gray has been charged with ten counts of downloading unauthorised information from computers in the US, Canada, Thailand and Britain.

Another charge includes two counts of deception, which involved 1399 worth of computer kit and 400 of department store goods.

Gray's turned up to Carmarthen Magistrates' Court yesterday only to give his name, date of birth and address. The case was adjourned to 15 June. ®
