BMW just can't let go of Rover

Woof woof goes Reg Web watchdog

While most have learnt that with instantaneous Net technology, a poorly updated website can look unprofessional, BMW still hasn't got around to updating (that is dissolving) its rovergroup site. Even though it sold Rover for just 10 two weeks ago.

Go to the site and you'll be offered rundown of BMW's financial state. Maybe it's just trying to make a point: "Here's how much money we pumped into a fleet of naff English cars with a poor brand image."

The Rover story caused enormous controversy in the UK, mostly because it was the final recognition that Britain's once proud car industry was now dead in the water. BMW lost a fortune with Rover and decided to dump it. Wrangles followed, the DTI got involved, a million tabloid columns etc etc.

It was eventually sold for 10 to Phoenix - which had previously been snubbed in favour of VC company Alchemy. God only knows if they can make it profitable. ®
