08004u –- down but not out

Struggling ISP 08004u is claiming to have pulled off a last-minute victory in its battle to stay in business and get its service off the ground at last.

According to a statement on its site, 08004u has "finally been able to secure the future of our product". It continues: "By Wednesday evening we will have our first test runs of the new improved service. You may find this difficult to get logged on to the new service in the beginning. This new service has only a limited number of lines, and so you may get engaged tones.

"However, we will be increasing the number of lines and very shortly we will have all of our existing customers back on line with 08004U!"

Yesterday, we reported that the Dundee-based outfit was in crisis talks to secure access numbers and lines from its key suppliers. The ISP appears to cheated death once again. 08004u has been plagued with troubles since it launched back in September.

This latest statement sounds a more optimistic note than has been forthcoming from the company, but it remains to be seen what, if anything, will materialise on Wednesday and whether 08004u will still have enough support from paying customers to run a viable service in the long run. ®
