Sega, AT&T discuss free Dreamcast Net access

Deal to mirror European pact with BT

Sega is negotiating with AT&T to set up a major online gaming arena to be launched alongside the US debut of the Japanese games vendor's Dreamcast console. According to reports in the Japaneses Sankei newspaper, the two companies are in talks to provide a US equivalent of the free Internet access package Sega recently partnered with British Telecom to provide in Europe. The European and US Dreamcast launches are scheduled for September. Internet access, primarily for online gaming, is likely to play a mjor part in Sega's plans to attract customers to its new system, not only existing owners of Nintendo's N64 and Sony's PlayStation, but those who might be tempted to wait for those companies' next generation products due late 2000 and late this year, respectively. ®
