A love-struck squaddie has had his romantic hopes dashed via cyberspace in front of the world's military.

Christian Kolden, a cadet at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado, proclaimed his love for another cadet through an email a few weeks ago.

The 18-year-old Romeo bravely penned his feelings to Laura Schatte, a member of the 35th Cadet Squadron, which is known as the Wild Weasels.

"If your love was a grain of sand, my love would be a universe of beaches," he wrote.

"I know I'm not good at maths but I know the equation of love. It equals you plus me", and other such proclamations spewed forth from this military mind.

Kolden finished off with "Are you tired, girl? Because you've been running through my head all day."

The heartless Ms. Schatte, however, did as her surname suggests all over the poor boy and sent the email off to all her male friends.

"Hey guys, don't send gals emails like this or else serious retribution will incur," she wrote.

Within days the email had a 22-page list of forwarding addresses, and was zooming around the US military's email system.

As well as reaching US army head honchos, it soon made its way to Australia and the UK.

Young Kolden was unavailable to comment to The Register which is a pity, because we wanted to know if he rearranged the alphabet, would he put U and I together. ®
