Senior SOC Specialist, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Swansea, UK

The role in delivering significant online services to the public and caring for the key Driver and Vehicle databases, which are part of the UK Critical National Infrastructure, results in cyber security being viewed as an essential activity, in which the organisation continues to invest. DVLA has an extensive change program to build world class digital services, and in that context getting the security right is an imperative.

The Senior SOC Specialist will be an integral part of the Cyber Security Services team, which recently achieved Highly Commended status at the SC Europe Awards in the Best Security Team category. The role fulfils key functions in delivering operational security services, supporting operational assurance and protecting critical assets.

Service Desk Lead, Swansea, UK

Based at the DVLA in Swansea, you will be joining a focused team who deliver excellent customer service on day-to-day basis to the internal DVLA workforce.

The Service Desk is a dedicated team, working in a fast-paced environment, managed using ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) methodology. As a Service Desk Lead, you will lead the team in the delivery of quality, performance and day-to-day operations of the Service Desk ensuring that Customer Service and quality is at the heart of everything we do. You will promote the latest technology, training and development to improve the overall capability of Service Desk skills and support staff in their progression within ITS.

Operations Centre Shift Team Lead, Swansea, UK

We are looking for an Operations Centre Shift Team Lead to lead a team of five analysts.

In this role you will become an established systems and product specialist to support our end users whilst contributing to the definition of operational processes. You will be supporting the programme that migrates legacy technology onto new, cloud-based platforms that shape and deliver up to 50 projects of varying size, risk and complexity paving the way for the future business and service transformation.

Candidates are required to work a specific shift pattern, which includes in and out of hours on a 12 hour basis. An indicative shift allowance of 35 per cent is applicable.

Senior Systems Engineer, Cardiff, UK

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer with proven industry experience. The successful candidate will help shape the operations and support for critical Windows and Linux based applications, customers and projects. You will be required to communicate and solve problems, whilst handling a fast-paced working environment. This will be combined with a transition to DevOps practices, agile support and deployment processes.

The role involves:

  • Delivering resilient application stacks via "Infrastructure as Code" and other DevOps practices
  • Monitoring and providing ongoing support of critical, high revenue business applications
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex system and application issues

Essential skills:

  • Configuration Management tools – e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Chef or equivalents
  • Professional experience of working within the public cloud – Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Hands-on experience of Linux server including support and troubleshooting
  • System and application monitoring – e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, Cloudwatch, etc.

Situation Publishing, the owner of The Register, is looking to fill a combined SysAdmin and DevOps role. The successful candidate will work on our Debian-based Linux systems which run predominantly open-source software, and our closed-source Perl, Bash and Linux tooling.

You will aid our technical and ad-ops teams by providing velocity and stability to the business. You'll become the primary carer of our systems and the OS/applications running on them. As part of the small tech team, you'll also be jointly responsible for dealing with rare incidents, and for scheduled routine out-of-hours maintenance tasks. You'll become the driver behind the automated tooling that will help our developers develop and our business do business.
