Need a helping hand to turn your AI startup into a future British success? Excellent. Apply here...

How to get into Tech Nation's growth programme for UK artificial intelligence

Promo Artificial intelligence is the future, with countries around the world investing heavily in initiatives that solve real-world problems using AI.

The UK is no exception. However, its startups may find that venturing into the uncharted world of applied AI has its own special challenges.

How do you translate complex algorithms from the lab into commercial propositions? How do you show the accuracy of your valuations, meet complex regulation requirements, find the right staff, and win over the uninitiated?

If you are an ambitious tech entrepreneur struggling with such issues, help is at hand. Tech Nation is a UK network dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs through every stage of growing their business, with the aim of helping digital enterprises bring jobs, skills, and higher productivity to the UK. Tech Nation does this through growth programmes, events, training, and data resources to reach every part of the UK – and it has just launched its first growth programme for AI.

Currently, Tech Nation is offering 20 selected companies the chance to join a six-month peer-to-peer programme for applied AI companies who aim to solve real-world problems.

A panel of expert judges will decide who will be invited to join: among them are Dame Wendy Hall (Regius Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton), Dr Angie Ma (COO of Faculty), Dr Mike Short (CBE, Chief Scientific Officer at DIT), and Marta Krupinska (Head of Google for Entrepreneurs).

The nationwide free programme, starting this September, will act as a network that helps startup leaders learn both from their peers and experienced business founders, and meet investors and potential clients. There is also the possibility of joining Tech Nation on an international trip.

To qualify, candidates must be headquartered in the UK, seed to series A* (or have no more than £1.5m annual recurring revenue), have AI as their core product, demonstrate ethical principles, and aim to contribute positively to the AI sector and be eager to grow. Your company could focus on anything from mobility to manufacturing, or e-commerce to healthcare.

If this sounds like you, now is the time to apply.
