Planning on geeking out at CA World this year? Think again

Conference a casualty of world's weirdest acquisition

If you're one of the roughly 4,000 people planning to get a Miami-worth of frequent flyer points in November, think again: CA has binned CA World.

The anonymous reader who tipped us off to the cancellation noted that the move comes pretty late in the process. With just eight weeks to go, venue, speakers, attendees, and sponsors were all booked and ready to rumble.

CA's announcement, such as it is, is terse:

“CA World ’18 has been cancelled due to the pending transaction between Broadcom and CA Technologies, which is scheduled to close in the fourth quarter of 2018. The decision was made to cancel the conference rather than gather so many of our customers, partners and other stakeholders before we can provide a complete update on our integration plans going forward with Broadcom.”

The note adds that attendees and sponsors can contact CAWorld@TravelHQ.com or call +1-844-431-2758 to get their money back.

The Wayback Machine shows that as late as last Thursday, it was still all systems go for “CA World '18: It's a Whole New World”.

Broadcom's acquisition of CA was announced in July, and things are proceeding unremarkably. Last Wednesday, September 12, CA's stockholders voted to accept Broadcom's offer of US$44.50 per share.

The Register has asked CA for comment. ®
