Whomp. Intel's promised fatter Optane drive arrives

Offers advice on getting better Optane benchmark boosts

The 750GB version of Intel's Optane P4800X product is becoming available this month, doubling the current 375GB capacity.

There are two form factors for the 750gig product: the current half-height, half-length add-in card (AIC) and a hot-swappable 2.5-inch U.2 drive.

Intel has also posted four blogs discussing Optane performance:

These blogs provide tuning suggestions to get the most out of Optane drives in benchmarking environments.

The last one says: "Most benchmarks tests use very high queue depth to achieve results, however, this is not how real workloads behave. They are normally random in nature with low queue depth.... Intel Optane storage devices can achieve latencies in the microseconds range, so it is very important to tune the system to achieve the best possible result." ®
