Win Server 2016 on AWS

Well that didn't take long: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has flicked the switch and added Windows Server 2016 as an option on its EC2 compute-as-a-service service.

AWS offers Windows Server 2016 Datacenter with Desktop Experience, Windows Server 2016 Nano Server, Windows Server 2016 with Containers (complete with pre-installed Docker) and Windows Server 2016 with SQL Server 2016. The latter - you guessed it - has SQL Server pre-installed.

You can bring your own licences to AWS, if your agreement with Microsoft allows it.

The cloud colossus points out that Windows Server 2016 needs at least 2GB of memory and that you'll need to choose your preferred EC2 instances accordingly. ®
