Lenovo big cheese walks

Dave McQuarrie tipped to join HP Inc

I quit

Lenovo exec and its one-time UK boss Dave McQuarrie has upped sticks after years aboard the Chinese PC maker with HP Inc tipped to be his next destination.

McQuarrie ran the EMEA notebook division when he joined from Dell in 2008, before taking on other senior posts; chief operating officer; Western Europe veep of SMB, consumer, & channel; and veep for Northern Europe, which for a short period included directly running the business in Britain.

In a note sent out to trade customers this week - seen by us - Lenovo UK chief John Harber confirmed the big cheese “will leave to pursue an alternative career opportunity… we are sad to see him go”.

“As a temporary measure myself and the UK team will be reporting to EMEA COO Francois Bornibus,” he added.

A Lenovo spokesman said McQuarrie had "driven the growth in the North region to 20 per cent PC market share with important achievements in all business segments."

Sources claimed McQuarrie is on gardening leave and is expected to take up residence at HP Inc, well, during his working hours at least.

Lenovo and HP Inc have become arch rivals in recent years, vying for the top spot in the traditional PC market - and this is not the first time a senior employee has defected to the other side.

HP Inc’s former EMEA chief Eric Cador rocked up at Lenovo in 2015 but left earlier this year over a disagreement about corporate strategy, and Pascal Bourguet was the most recent person to move from HP to Lenovo.

The Reg has put in calls for comment with McQuarrie and HP Inc. ®
