US govt mulls DNC hack

The White House says it will have a response to the recent hacks of the Democratic National Committee.

Speaking to the press aboard Air Force One, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest vowed the US would take a "proportional" response to alleged involvement of Russia in the attacks that resulted in a massive data breach of one of the two major US political parties.

Earnest would not say just what actions the US government would take to respond to Russia, but the report notes that the punishment could include further trade sanctions.

"The president has talked before about the significant capabilities that the US government has to both defend our systems in the United States but also carry out offensive operations in other countries," Earnest was quoted as saying.

"There are a range of responses that are available to the president and he will consider a response that's proportional." ®
