Australian Signals Directorate seeks offensive people

Pen testers, devs, and other infosec bods with all skills wanted

The antipodean spy agency the Australian Signals Directorate is seeking cleaning staff information security personnel for offensive and defensive operations.

The Department of Defence agency is seeking warm bodies for "offensive cyber operators", penetration testing, vulnerability research, and development and support roles.

Hackers will need to reside in no man's land Russell, Canberra, or Pott's Point, NSW.

The agency describes itself as collecting and analysing foreign signals intelligence, defending Australian networks from sophisticated attacks, and brewing its own offensive cyber capabilities.

Agency jobs span:

  • Software developers;
  • Network and system administrators engineers;
  • Offensive cyber operators;
  • Operational technologists;
  • Technical support officers;
  • Cyber security vulnerability researchers;
  • Cyber security specialists and assessors;
  • Cyber security responders and malware analysts,
  • Penetration testers.

Security personnel will be paid between A$63,236 and A$100,305, and more subject to negotiation, a figure far less than private sector salaries.

Industry types generally regard Directorate jobs as a significant tick on resumes and a fertile training ground for security skills.

Budding hackers will need to pass psychological assessments and extensive security clearances.
