Filmmaker Werner Herzog interviews Elon Musk for internet doco

It's just as weird as you'd imagine

Uncompromising filmmaker Werner Herzog has made a documentary film about the internet.

Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World features interviews with PayPal and Tesla co-founder Elon Musk, roboticist Sebastian Thrun, and UCLA professor and co-creator of ARPANET (the precursor to the Internet) Leonard Kleinrock, among others.

The 74-year-old German director of feature films such as Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo as well as documentaries such as Grizzly Man) teamed with security firm Netscout to make the 90-minute documentary, due out in the UK on 28 October.

The film project was originally conceived as a series of short online videos demonstrating how much the world has come to depend on the net before the scope of the project was expanded.

Lo and Behold explores those who first built the connected world, from hackers to astrophysicists, and the fragility of this connection and our dependency on it,” according to a promo for the upcoming documentary.

Bootnote

The common denominator of the Universe is not harmony, but chaos, hostility and murder” – Werner Herzog

Indiewire has a list of the 11 craziest things that have happened during the making of Werner Herzog’s films that are well worth a review. Pulling a real boat over a mountain in Peru during the making of Fitzcarraldo and when he ate a shoe to settle a bet obviously get a mention but there’s not even space to mention the time the film maker was shot by an “insignificant bullet” whilst being interviewed by film critic Mark Kermode in LA.
