The Internet of Things can transform your business … once your networks are ready

Huawei's IoT vision will expand at this week's Huawei Connect 2016 Shanghai

Promo The Internet of Things (IoT) creates possibilities to transform every industry, and some of those possibilities will emerge this week at Huawei Connect 2016, the company's flagship conference in Shanghai.

But you'll struggle to even pilot IoT ideas if the networks you rely on aren't ready.

And the IoT gives your network a big job.

For starters, you need to consider how each sensor will share the data it collects. Will it be wireless? Will it talk to a gateway, or direct to a more substantial server. How will you connect a gateway to your data centre? How will you secure that traffic?

And if you're running thousands or millions of sensors, how will you handle the torrent of data they all produce?

Huawei's already pondered many of these questions and has developed “LiteOS” as an open source operating system designed to run sensors, or integrate them. Suitable for all sorts of sensors in the home, cars, and manufacturing applications, Huawei LiteOS is already in production around the world powering IoT applications like smart parking, smart lighting and smart metering.

Our existing telephony and data centre networking products make up part of those systems, but Huawei also knows that to realise the IoT's potential it must work with the broad alliances of equipment manufacturers, telecom operators, ICT solutions providers, application developers, research institutions and government agencies all working on IoT solutions.

Huawei is committed to ensuring its own solutions work alongside those emerging standards and solutions, because no single stakeholder can do all the innovation required to spur widespread adoption of the IoT.

For now, you can see Huawei's LiteOS and its other IoT solutions at Huawei Connect 2016 this week. If you can't make the show, its microsite will bring you more news of how Huawei is evolving the ideas and products mentioned above to advance the IoT.
