Five-hour Azure wobble

Microsoft's Azure endured a five-hour brownout on Thursday.

Microsoft says "SQL Databases hosted in Multiple Regions may have experienced issues performing Service Management Operations" between 01:45 and 06:47 UTC. The incident meant "Retrieving information about SQL servers and databases through the Azure Management Portal may have resulted in an error or timeout. Server and Database create, drop, rename and change edition or performance tier operations may also not have completed successfully."

As is so often the case in the cloud, Microsoft broke itself while making a small upgrade. Rolling back to the last stable version sorted things out and Microserfs are now figuring out how not to make the same mistake twice. ®
