WD's 10TB Gold nugget

WD has taken its 8TB helium-filled, Gold-branded data centre disk drive and upped its capacity from 8TB to 10TB.

The spin speed of 7,200rpm and the 6Gbit/s SATA interface stay the same, as does the 2.5 million hour mean time between failures rating and the 550TB/year workload. Cache doubles from 128MB to 256MB and the maximum sustained data transfer increases from 205MB/sec to 249MB/sec. The 8TB model was introduced in April this year so a 25 per cent capacity boost in four months is pretty good going. ®
