Huawei big, margins slimmer

Huawei revenue rose 40 per cent over the first half 2016, from the same period a year ago, although the employee-owned company didn’t disclose its profits.

Revenue was declared at ¥245.5bn ($36.6bn) for the first six months of 2016. Margins were lower, at 12 per cent, down from 18 per cent. Huawei has increased its consumer marketing spending to gain more traction in the smartphone business. It has also sued T-Mobile and Samsung over 4G patents. Huawei sells more 4G infrastructure than anyone else. ®
