New Google cloud bit barn

Google's thrown the switch on a new cloudy data centre.

The Oregon Cloud Region (us-west1) currently only offers Google's Compute Engine, Cloud Storage and Container Engine, plus two Compute Engine zones to support high availability applications.

Google reckons that users in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles “can expect to see a 30-80% reduction in latency” compared to that experienced with the company's us-central1 region. Which will probably be appreciated, given that plenty of code is cut in those cities.

The Alphabet subsidiary has also launched betas of its Cloud Natural Language and Cloud Speech APIs. ®
