IBM bags $300m Emirates gig

Emirates has appointed IBM to run various technology services in a 10-year deal worth $300m.

The contract sees the airline using IBM mainframes and storage on a managed services basis and will enable it to improve efficiency for passenger support systems and gain significant operational savings, IBM said in a statement today.

Emirates is a long-standing IBM customer and has run its ticketing and reservations system on IBM mainframe for more than 30 years. So it is entirely possible that the deal means that IBM ends up with less revenue from this customer than previously. ®
