New tape library out

The new 1.8PB, LTFS-using SXL-6500 tape library from XenData uses LTO7 format tapes to store video files.

It comes as a base 2U SX-551 archive server, with 4.8TB of RAIDed disk for caching, and a 3U LTO library with two internal LTO-7 drives and 30 slots providing 180TB of capacity. Up to nine 2U, 30-slot, 180TB expansion modules can be added to reach 1.8PB. LTFS means video files can be dragged and dropped to the device in host Windows desktop-like file operations. They link to the tape library using a 1 GbitE or 10 GbitE connection and NAS interface. The firm said the SXL-6500 also has an object storage interface, is compatible with most media asset management systems and has on-site support in most locations worldwide. Pricing starts at $42,850 for a base 180TB system. ®
