Russia student coders win

Students from St Petersburg State University placed first in the International Collegiate Programming Contest world finals.

According to the scoreboard, students from Shangai Jiao Tong University and Harvard placed second and third respectively in the 40th annual programming competition operated under the auspices of ACM.

More than 40,000 students took part in this year's competition, which pits teams of three university students against eight or more complex, real-world problems, under a five-hour deadline and with access to only a single computer.

Only Imperial College London represented the UK in the competition. It placed 92nd of 128. ®
