Microsoft kills Sunrise

Just one year after it bought the application, Microsoft has announced it is killing off the popular Sunrise calendar software.

Microsoft bought the app for an undisclosed sum in February last year stating that "a reinvention in the way people use calendars on mobile devices is long overdue." At the time, Sunrise's founders told users "we're not going anywhere" and promised they would maintain the versions of its app on non-Microsoft platforms, including Android and iOS.

In a new blog post Wednesday however, the team explained that the app will now be folded into Outlook, and the app will be pulled from stores in the next few days. Existing versions of the app will stop working entirely on August 31.

Users were, predictably, not happy about the news. ®
