True security means better response to hacks, not bigger walls to block hackers

HPE's VP of enterprise security explains how to make your security spend count

PROMO It's not a matter of whether your digital infrastructure will be attacked: it's a matter of when.

How you prepare for the inevitable is therefore critical.

Earl Matthews, HPE's vice-president of enterprise security solutions, says you've got three choices when planning your security strategy.

You can prioritise blocking attacks.

You can develop processes that let you respond to attacks.

Or you can put most effort into cleaning up after an attack.

Matthews is a former Director of Cyberspace Operations for the US Air Force and that experience leads him to believe that the best way to prepare is be well-prepared to react effectively when attacks arrive.

Why? Without offering too many spoilers for our Webinar next Tuesday, May 3rd, Matthews believes that even the most elaborate defences can be breached. Effective response is therefore more powerful than bigger walls.

Join The Register's Mark Pesce and HPE's Earl Matthews in this webinar, in which Matthews will share insights from his 31 years working for the US government, insights from his experience on the front lines of cyber-ops and offer advice on how to get more bang for your security buck.
