Signal Desktop beta opens

Crypto-comms app Signal has opened its Desktop beta for public access.

Today's release follows enormous interest in the queued beta last December, which saw tens of thousands of supporters sign up.

Endorsed by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, the end-to-end crypto messaging app now supports a single user identifier across multiple devices through Signal Desktop, a Chrome app based on the Signal Protocol allowing users to "send high-quality private group, text, and video messages for free."

The release follows WhatsApp's integration of the Signal Protocol earlier this month. ®
