Barking spider prompts Spanish clan shoot-out

Two shot and three cuffed in flatulent fracas

An exchange of air biscuits between two men prompted a shoot-out between rival Spanish Roma clans in the city of Torrent, Valencia, on Sunday night, which left three cuffed and four injured, two of them with bullet wounds.

According to local news outlet Información, the ruckus kicked off in the street shortly before midnight when a member of one family let rip while walking past a young member of the other, who returned the flatulent compliment. The two began to argue, at which point the indignant wife of one of the protagonists weighed in and attacked another woman.

It's not clear exactly how this escalated into an exchange of gunfire, but two men from one clan were shot. The first, named as 57-year-old Ramón G. M, received three rounds, suffering kidney damage from a shot to the abdomen. He was admitted to intensive care in the Hospital General de Valencia in a "serious" condition.

His son, 29, was lightly wounded in the leg. Following the incident, 50 police officers were deployed in the area "to prevent possible retaliation".

This isn't the first time the two families have clashed, Información notes. The three men arrested on Sunday are brothers who are said to be part of to "Los Marcos" clan, who were involved in another shoot-out last summer. ®
