Big hybrid iron swinger Infinidat bigs up its own growth

Unlisted company doing well off decline of legacy arrays

Infinidat, Moshe Yanai’s attempt to re-invent monolithic arrays in hybrid array, super-reliable form, had a good final 2015 quarter and wants everyone to know it's growing while competitors are lagging.

To put this in context, in the third quarter of 2015 Infinidat had 61 per cent quarter-over-quarter growth and a 255 per cent increase in international sales.

Some 49 per cent of sales came through reseller and distributor channels and it signed 25 reseller and distribution agreements in the quarter, taking the channel partner count to 104.

It also told the world that more than 250PB of Infinidat storage had been shipped to customers.

So, in its fourth 2015 quarter Infinidat tells the world it had:

  • 183 per cent quarter over quarter sales growth
  • 331 per cent year over year growth in 2015
  • New international customers accounted for 50 per cent of sales in Q4 and 32 per cent overall in 2015
  • It shipped 200 per cent more capacity in 2015 than in 2014
  • More than 49 per cent of sales cane through the channel; no change there
  • Signed agreements with 25 additional resellers and distributors in Q4
  • Global channel partner count reaches 129

Founder and CEO Moshe Yanai said: “Our exponential rate of growth continues despite the universal decline in sales across the storage market.”

Take that, competitors. You are getting whipped, according to Infinidat.

We think his point about a universal decline in sales across the storage market is flaky, as EMC’s XtremIO and Pure Storage FlashArray sales rises demonstrate. Ditto Kaminario and Solidfire.

Some 34 per cent of Infinidat sales were to the finance sector, 18 per cent to healthcare and life sciences, and 18 per cent to the tech services sector. New customers in the fourth quarter included Health Data Innovations, brightsolid, Helios IT, Yeo Tech, Nxtra Data, and Meitav Dash.

Expansion continued apace; in 2015 Infinidat opened offices across Europe and Asia Pacific, including the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia and Japan. This year it plans to more than triple the office space of its US headquarters and other locations globally.

Big hybrid iron is booming for Moshe as Atlantis, DataGravity, Panasas and Tegile feel the cost-cutting pain. We figure Infinidat will carry on growing as legacy monolithic array sales fall. ®
