Safari iOS crashing: Suggestions snafu KOs the Apple masses

Fix your settings, or refresh your DNS? Give it a go and let us know

A bug has struck Apple’s Safari, causing the browser to crash on iPhones, iPads and Macs. The problem is triggered when you tap on the address bar and begin to type, which would normally pop up website suggestions.

Displaying these suggestions – sent from Apple's servers – appears to be at the heart of the issue.

Game developer Steve Stoughton-Smith tweeted here:

The crash has taken out groups users.

It seems to be affecting different versions of OS X and iOS, with one Register reader getting in touch to say it was taking down devices running iOS 9.2.1.

A temporary fix doing the rounds on Twitter and Reddit is to turn off Safari Suggestions, under Settings. Troughton-Smith tweeted on Wednesday afternoon that a DNS reset also seemed to fix the problem. ®
