Dum dum dum - another cloud bites the dust (Adobe's photo cloud)

And Adobe's cloud's gone, and Seagate's cloud's gone, another one bites the dust

Adobe's announced it will close Revel, its Flickr-like cloudy photo storage service.

The company's announced that the service will close its doors on February 23rd, 2016. Users are being herded towards encouraged to instead adopt Adobe's US$9.99/£8.57 a month Creative Cloud Photography offering.

Adobe's telling Revel users they'll be better off in Creative Cloud because it includes more apps and tools. Aside from the added cost, migration won't be easy. Users will first need to download their photo trove, then upload it to Creative Cloud. That's an arrangement that hints at total lack of integration between Adobe's two services, and possibly an intention to retire the infrastructure underpinning Revel.

2015's proving a tough year for cloud storage outfits. First Seagate subsidiary LaCie closed its encrypted photo-sharing service Wuala, then Microsoft decided that unlimited storage has its limits by removing the open-ended top tier of OneDrive storage and replacing it with a 1TB limit.

Let's not forget, also, that AVG's also killed a cloud storage service by pulling down the shutters on its LiveKive in March 2014. ®
