NewEgg cracks open Australian shipping scheme

Oz system builders' letterbox wait times just shrank

Components and kit retailer NewEgg has fried up an Australian delicacy.

The company's previously shipped to Australia from offshore locations but has decided the glamour of air and/or sea travel isn't all it's cracked up to be. As have its customers, who apparently resent shipping costs a bit.

The site has therefore addressed “order fulfillment, customer support, returns, regional product compatibility and country-specific regulations” and kicked off local shipping.

At first glance, the site may become attractive to local system builders, at least if the first few items on the outfit's Australian home page are any indication.

The first item, “G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Intel X99 Platform Extreme Performance Memory” sells for AU$83.00. Comparison site Staticice rates that product as cheaper than any other on offer in Australia. The 512GB Surface Pro i7 is offered at $2,269, beneath Microsoft's $2,294 (billed as a $404 discount).

The third featured product at the time of writing, a MSI GS60 6QE-055AU gaming notebook, matches other local suppliers.

Is that enough to prise you away from the magnificent ahem service at local hero MSY? Let us know, readers. ®
