Bungling Bonn burglar locks himself into house

Imprisoned in storeroom, calls cops for rescue

A 43-year-old German burglar demonstrated a notable lack of skill with locks during an attempted robbery in the city of Bonn last Saturday, according to local cops.

The unnamed perp first attempted to enter his target property through the front door. Having failed to open that, he jumped the back garden fence and gained access through a set of unlocked patio doors.

He swiped a notebook, a mobile phone and a bit of food for the trip home, before checking out a storeroom. Unfortunately, the door slammed shut behind him, and due to a faulty lock, he became trapped inside.

He eventually called for police rescue, and a patrol obliged. The hapless n'er-do-well has previous form for burglary, Bonn cops say.

By international crap criminal standards, self-imprisonment is a pretty good effort. Long-term readers will doubtless recall previous notable "world's dumbest" attempts, including the Minnesota mastermind who broke into a house, logged into Facebook on his victim's PC, and then obligingly left his social network profile up and open for the returning homeowner, and the teenage Brit who sprayed "Peter Addison was here!" at the scene of a burglary. ®
