Look out, Silicon Valley – Don Basile is back to kick ass and chew gum

And he's all out of gum

Ex-Violin Memory CEO Don Basile has emerged as an investor in Cumulus Logic. It’s great to have one of the most colorful people in storage back on the scene.

Cumulus Logic is building a cloud-based multi-tenant real-time analytics platform.

It is a stealthy startup founded in 2014 by Iqlas Ottamalika, its CEO, who was a senior director of engineering at Violin Memory from 2011 to 2014. There, his LinkedIn profile says he “conceived, architected and delivered Violin Management Platform (Violin Symphony) in five months with four engineers. Built anytime, anywhere access with desktop, iPad and iPhone user interfaces.”

Before that he was with Juniper Networks, AccelOps and Cisco.

Basile is also an investor in a stealthy mobile startup concerned with geo-location, Liqipel (a nanotech-based smartphone protection tech biz), Calient Technologies (3D MEMS optical circuit switching for software-defined data centers and transport networks), RiverMeadow Software, and Sureline Systems (application mobility).

We understand his sassy go-getting New Yorker attitude can fit uncomfortably with Silicon Valley dreamers. Welcome back Don, and shake it up a bit. ®
