Intel keeps droning on, as PC sales continue to tumble

Plans later, but for now here’s $60m, Yuneec

Intel has chucked $60m (£39m) at Chinese drone company Yuneec in a bid to combat the downward spiral in global PC sales, the latest cash-splashing exercise by the chipzilla.

In a video statement announcing the move Intel Chief Executive Officer Brian Krzanich said: “At Intel we believe in a smart and connected world. And one of the best ways to bring that smart and connected world to everyone and everywhere has been drones."

Intel has not released anymore information as to how the deal will fit into its company plans

“We’ve got drones on our road map that are going to truly change the world and revolutionise the drone industry. Happy droning," Krzanich added.

Worldwide PC shipments are expected to fall by 8.7 per cent by the end of the year and growth won’t return for another two years, analyst firm IDC said today.

Intel led a $100m (£64m) fund-raising round into open source cloudy operating system Mirantis earlier this week. ®
