Huawei claims 30 per cent growth for H1 2015/16

All segments on the rise

Huawei's core smartphone and network infrastructure units have driven the Chinese behemoth's revenue past $28bn for the first half of financial year 2015-2016.

In a result that will chill the likes of Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson, the company's revenues hopped on an elevator to grow 30 per cent year-on-year, and margins for the six months stood at 18 per cent.

Since it's a private company, that's as much detail as Huawei provides, apart from a couple of self-congratulatory statements from CFO Meng Wanzhou.

Meng said growth was accelerating in Huawei's enterprise segment, with demand for cloud, storage, and networking solutions both in the home and international markets.

Chinese investment in 4G networks underpinned the carrier business, Meng said, but performance in that segment was apparently more muted, since he referred only to “steady growth”.

China was also the engine-room of its consumer business, with TrendForce estimating back in April that the company holds more than 19 per cent of the Chinese smartphone market. ®
