DEA agent slugged a MEELLION dollars for Silk Road snipe

Hopes for release from solitary

Carl Mark Force, the Drug Enforcement Agency officer who in June took a plea bargain for misconduct during the Silk Road investigation, will lose a bunch of currency, both real and virtual.

In a preliminary judgement filed on July 9, US District Judge Richard Seeborg has ordered that Force relinquish around 687 BitCoin held in various accounts (more than US$200,000 at current prices), plus nearly $300,000 in US dollars.

As well as the forfeiture, Seeborg has entered a judgement of $500,000 against Force.

The judgement documents, filed at Cryptome, also reveal a complaint by Force's lawyers that an order made in May, that he be able to receive (unspecified) medication, hasn't yet been complied with.

His lawyers also request his removal from solitary confinement, stating that this, combined with a lack of medication, has resulted in a worsening of “Mr Force's mental health issues”.

During the Silk Road investigation, Force allegedly took payments in BitCoin – but instead of using a DEA account, he transferred the funds to his own account and told his bosses the proposed transaction never happened.

In late June, another officer involved in the case, Shaun Bridges, entered a guilty plea to a charge of lifting $820,000 in Bitcoin from SilkRoad. ®
