'Facebook without sin' attracts 0.00006 times as many users as Facebook

Plus: Reddit grovel, Xbox groove, Mega man and more

News bytes A social networking website built in Brazil is touting itself as a sin-free version of Facebook.

Dubbed Facegloria, the Portuguese-language site prides itself on Christian values to connect users. The site vows to terminate users who offend "morals and good manners."

According to BBC News, Facegloria has attracted 100,000 users since its launch last month. That might seem an impressive number, but keep in mind that Brazil has more than 200 million citizens in its population, the overwhelming majority of which identify as Catholic.

By comparison, Brazil's professional soccer federation alone counts 31,000 people in its ranks.

iPhone 6S 'fat boy slim' rumor

According to diagrams seen by Engadget Japan, the next iPhone – the 6S – will be 7.1mm thick, thus slightly wider than the 6.9mm iPhone 6. The technical drawings came from Apple's leaky Chinese supply chain, apparently. The increased thickness may be due to the addition of a Force Touch display, which can push back on your finger as you use the phone. The new handset is rumored to go on sale in September this year.

Microsoft gets stuck in a Groove

Microsoft is rebranding its Xbox Music software as Groove and Xbox Video as Movies & TV. Oddly enough, Remond says "for both of these apps, you’ll see the changes come through first on Windows 10 PCs before rolling out to other devices in the coming months."

Reddit CEO apologizes for cockups

Ellen Pao, CEO of 4chan-for-beginners Reddit, has said sorry after upsetting so many of her website's users by making various unpopular changes to the site. The apology and promise to do better comes after a petition signed by more than 150,000 people was set up calling for her resignation. Pao says she has made a Reddit staffer a point of contact for the small army of unpaid volunteer moderators, who keep the website running smoothly and feel unloved by the site's employees.

"We screwed up. Not just on July 2, but also over the past several years," Pao posted on Reddit just before lunchtime, San Francisco time.

"We haven’t communicated well, and we have surprised moderators and the community with big changes. We have apologized and made promises to you, the moderators and the community, over many years, but time and again, we haven’t delivered on them. When you’ve had feedback or requests, we haven’t always been responsive. The mods and the community have lost trust in me and in us, the administrators of Reddit."

Reddit reckons it got 163,966,958 unique visitors in June, so it's kinda a big deal on the internet.

Mega Man Kickstarter revival

The mind behind the Nintendo console classic Mega Man franchise is trying to raise funds for a new game on Kickstarter. Capcom alum Keiji Inafune is asking gamers to feed him cash on behalf of Red Ash, an in-development game based on Japanese anime.

The game would be based on the Mighty No. 9 side-scrolling game with an emphasis on traditional Japanese anime artwork.

"We want to continue embracing this new style of game design and production, challenges and risks included. With Red Ash, we hope to channel your passion for gaming into our creative process, and fulfill both our own dreams and the dreams of our fans around the world!" reads the Kickstarter pitch.
