NatWest IT cock-up sees 600,000 transactions go 'missing'

'Nothing but problems with this bank, going to change'

NatWest customers have been informed that 600,000 transactions have gone missing, the latest debacle facing the IT gaffe-prone bank.

On its Twitter profile this morning the bank, which is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland, said: "Some customer payments are missing this morning, and we are investigating as a matter of urgency."

Many customers took to Twitter to complain:

This is not the first time the bank has experienced a major IT headache. In 2012, an IT disruption that lasted days and affected 6.5 million customers landed the bank with a £56m fine from regulators last year.

In a statement the bank said "there had been an issue with our overnight process, which has resulted in some of our customers not having credit or Direct Debits being applied to their accounts".

"We have fixed the underlying issue, we apologise for the inconvenience caused and we are working flat out to get these payments updated for our customers no later than Saturday."

"To any customers concerned about the implications of this issue we advise them to come into a branch or get in touch with our call centres where our staff will be ready to help. We will ensure no customers are left out of pocket as a result of this issue.”®
