Huawei and Vodafone saunter to bed together, making eyes at big biz

Old flames rekindle romance amid push for new biz

Vodafone and Huawei have signed a memorandum of understanding to say that they are going to work on fixed and mobile connectivity bonding technology for new products, amongst other enterprise-friendly things.

Those things also include working on better in-building coverage solutions, the development of new machine-to-machine module designs, and developing solutions regarding Safe City, Internet of Things, and cloud data centres.

This is part of the Huawei plan to jump into bed with as many operators as possible.

The target market is the biggest customers: global enterprises in Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa. The agreement was signed with pomp and ceremony in Shenzhen.

Vodafone has quite a history of working with Huawei, from branding handsets to testing small cells at 2.6GHz. This, however, is an enterprise-specific agreement which builds on the previous infrastructure and devices development.

Huawei and Vodafone Global Enterprise have already “worked closely in a number of areas to deliver an innovative branch enablement project” in Asia, as well as hosting and cloud gumble in South Africa.

Yan Lida, president of Huawei's Enterprise Business Group, said: “Now, many enterprises realize that technology-led transformation is necessary for companies to stay competitive, and improve operational efficiency and performance. Huawei is pleased to extend our long-standing relationship with Vodafone to establish a new agreement.” ®
