Amazon game dev brain slurp bid revealed in industry back-page ad

Big hires could take the online store to the next level to compete with the big boys

A job advert posted on Gamasutra has led to speculation about Amazon's plans to branch out in the PC game market.

The Kindle king is looking for 26 staff members for its gaming development team in Seattle.

"Amazon is committed to gamers, and building great teams who are excited to use Twitch, the AWS cloud, and technical innovation to radically evolve gameplay," says the internet giant, adding that it wants to create a "team of top talent for an ambitious new PC game project using the latest technology."

The advert promises the lucky candidates the chance to work alongside designers of Halo, Half-life 2, Portal, The Last of Us, World of Warcraft, Infamous, Shadows of Mordor, and BioShock.

Amazon has been moving further from its core online store business for years, with Fire TV the latest venture.

Amazon acquired Double Helix Games in February 2014 for an undisclosed sum, so its ambitions weren't exactly under wraps. No doubt Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all taken note. ®
