Bloke hits armadillo AND mother-in-law with single 9mm round

Impressive double for Georgia marksman

A Georgia man who took a 9mm pistol to an armadillo also managed to pop a cap in his wife's mum after the round ricocheted off the animal, "hit a fence, went through the back door of his mother-in-law's mobile home, through a recliner she was sitting in, and into her back".

According to cops, 54-year-old Larry McElroy pulled off the impressive double on Sunday in Lee County, north of Leesburg, nailing 74-year-old Carol Johnson from a distance of around 100 yards.

Lee County Sheriff's Office investigator Bill Smith admitted: "Just the circumstances, just all the way around, the whole situation was unusual."

While the unfortunate armadillo did not survive the shooting, Johnson was relatively unscathed. "She was walking around on her own power and talking. It didn't appear to be too severe," Smith assured.

The local authorities apparently recommend shooting troublesome armadillos, at least for those living in the countryside. Smith did, though, advise: "I really think if they're going to shoot at varmints and whatnot, maybe use a shotgun... with a spread pattern with a lot less range." ®
