HTC reveals recently embiggened Wang as thrusting new chief

Product development? Chou on that

Taiwanese phone-maker HTC has named co-founder Cher Wang as its next CEO.

Wang will replace outgoing chief exec Peter Chou, who will take a "strategic new role" at the company as head of the HTC Future Development Lab.

Chou joined HTC when it was founded 18 years ago and was promoted to president in 2004.

The company said Chou's new role will be "instrumental in identifying future growth opportunities".

Wang said: “As an entrepreneur at heart, I am excited to see so many new opportunities, and I am honoured to accept this opportunity to help shape the next stage of HTC’s development.”

She added the company's new virtual reality product, HTC Vive, will be key to the "connected technologies for our future".

Over the last two years, Wang had been increasingly involved in running various aspects of the business, to allow Chou to focus on product development, the firm said.

In January the company posted a fourth-quarter profit rise of 49 per cent to 470 million Taiwan New Dollars (£10m). ®
