Apple: We could expose our WHOPPING 12 INCH iPad - but it's not real

Thing that doesn't exist will continue not existing, says firm

Apple has reportedly delayed the manufacturing of its much speculated-upon - yet never confirmed - 12.9in iPad.

A Bloomberg report cites anonymous sources claiming that the enormo-slab won't emerge from factories until September. Apple was rumored to put the tab into production by June.

A shortage of display panels is said to be the reason for the hold up.

Such a delay would likely push the release of the plus-sized iPad to late 2015 or early 2016, possibly missing the back-to-school and even the crucial holiday shopping season.

Industry pundits and armchair experts have long been speculating on when Apple may decide to release the huge slab El Reg has dubbed the "MaxiPad." The Cupertino iGiant was even rumored to have scrapped the entire project at one point last year.

A large-screen iPad could be particularly important for Apple's adventure with IBM into the enterprise space. With many of Big Blue's mobile apps targeting shop staff, customer service handlers and other areas of business, a larger screen to work with could be a hit with biz bosses. ®
